CBI moves B'lore court for questioning Telgi in jail
Friday, February 13 2004 16:43 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached a Bangalore court seeking permission for the custodial interrogation of the kingpin in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Karim Telgi, in the Central Prison there.

The CBI has moved a separate application for Telgi's custodial remand and the court has posted it for hearing on February 19, the agency sources said.

The agency approached the Bangalore court after it failed to secure Telgi's remand in Ahmedabad case of fake stamp paper racket. Telgi's name cropped up in the case after CBI had busted fake stamp paper racket that was being carried out from a private residence in Ghatlodia area.

It was allegedly being run by Sabbir Ahmed Mustak Shaikh, Khalid Shaikh Badani and Sadik Ibrahim Hudli, who are all in judicial custody in Karnataka. The CBI recovered fake stamps and stamp paper worth of Rs nine crore in this case.

In its prayer before the Bangalore court, the CBI has asked for permission to interrogate Telgi in Bangalore prison as the Karnataka Government had invoked section 268 Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) against him, banning his exit from the State central jail.

In the second application, the CBI has requested that Telgi be handed over to the agency for carrying out a detailed probe in various stamp cases registered by it.
