VHP to extend full support to BJP in LS polls
Friday, February 13 2004 22:32 Hrs (IST)

Ayodhya: Appreciating Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's recent remarks on the need for construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today (Feb 13, 2004) said it would extend full support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming Lok Sabha elections as the saffron party had accepted 50 per cent of its "Hindutva agenda".

By stressing the need for temple construction, the Prime Minister had made it clear that the BJP was making efforts in that direction, VHP vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told reporters.

The VHP would extend full support to the BJP which had accepted 50 per cent of its Hindutva agenda, he said.

This in principle meant that the BJP had agreed to abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and protection of cow, the two main features of the Hindutva agenda, Kishore said.

Welcoming the return of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh into the BJP fold, he said the temple movement would get a boost following this development.

To a question, Kishore said the VHP had not submitted any proposal to the PMO for resolving the Ayodhya issue nor was it aware of any such proposal by S A A Rizvi, president of the Ayodhya-Jama Masjid Trust.

He said Sri Ram Mahayagya would be organised on the bank of River Saryu in Ayodhya from March 21 for 12 days.
