CBI to continue probe in 'Cash for warrants scam' Friday, February 13 2004 15:15 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today (Feb 13, 2004) directed CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to continue investigation into the "cash-for-warrants" scam and rejected the plea of the Ahmedabad Magistrate seeking discharge from the case.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice V N Khare, after perusing the CBI report, issued notice to another Ahmedabad-based advocate A K Gadvi for his alleged role in the
scam.
The court had earlier issued notices to Magistrate M S Brahmabhatt, Ahmedabad Criminal Bar Association president and two other advocates on a petition filed by a young journalist alleging that he paid Rs 40,000 to the advocates to get arrest warrants against the President, the Chief Justice of India and other VIPs.
The Court asked the Gujarat police to file a status report on the investigations that had been carried out into the journalist's assault case and warned if proper progress was not made the case will be transferred to CBI.
