'Temple construction can start at undisputed site' Saturday, February 14 2004 19:17 Hrs (IST) Pune:
Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamkoti Peetham, Swami Jayendra Saraswati today (Feb 14, 2004) said there should be no problem in starting construction work of Ram temple at the undisputed site in Ayodhya as there was near consensus among various communities.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a religious function, Shankaracharya said while construction can commence on the undisputed area, he expressed the hope that people of different faith would abide by the decision of the court.
However, he made it clear that he was expressing his views as religious head and that has nothing to do with any politics.
He has nothing to do with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and that the issue should not be politicised in the wake of ensuing elections, Shankaracharya said, adding he was meeting different people and eliciting their views and feels that the issue could be sorted out amicably.
