Seven Hizbul militants surrender in J&K Saturday, February 14 2004 17:01 Hrs (IST) Jammu:
Seven ultras of Hizbul Mujaheedin, including two of its commanders, today (Feb 14, 2004) surrendered along with arms and ammunition before police at Kathua, 89 km from Jammu.
The ultras surrendered before Gopal Sharma, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, at a function organised at district police lines in Kathua, a police spokesman said.
Those who surrendered included Mohammad Farooq alias Imran (launching commander), Mushtaq Ahmed alias Bitta (area commander), Liakat Ali alias Nikka, Riaz Ahmed alias Khalil Ahmed, Mohammad Abbas alias Laala, Mohammad Hussain alias Hasna and Parvez Khan alias Irshan Khan.
The ultras belong to the districts of Kathua, Doda and Udhampur and were active in militancy for past several years, he said.
The arms surrendered by them in packed pithos included five AK 47 rifles, five magazines, 364 rounds, three hand-grenades and four wireless sets.
