MDMK not to participate in any Govt: Vaiko
Saturday, February 14 2004 15:26 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) today (Feb 14, 2004) decided not to participate in any Government to be formed after the Lok Sabha polls at the Centre.

The general council of the party today took a decision in this regard, MDMK chief Vaiko told reporters.

The decision was taken as the party had great responsibility in protecting the separate identity of the Dravidian movement, he said.

Participating in any Ministry would distract the party from its primary responsibility of protecting the identity of the Dravidian movement, Vaiko said.

He said the party candidates for the Lok Sabh polls would be announced at a public meeting on Feb 19.

The party, a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Democratic Progressive Alliance, has been allocated four Lok Sabha seats.
