Moscow: In a tragic incident, the glass roof of a water entertainment park collapsed killing at least 16 people, including three children and injuring nearly 106.

Russia's Emergency Ministry said 16 people were killed including three children in the collapse, and 106 injured have been saved from under the wreckage and rushed to the hospital.

Twenty five children have been hospitalised, Itar Tass quoted the Ministry as saying. A child's birthday party was being held in the pool area when the roof collapsed.

Initial reports sparked fears of another strike by alleged Chechen rebels but authorities have ruled out terrorism and blamed faulty construction or heavy snow piled up on the roof as being responsible for the incident at the Transvaal park in Southwest Moscow.

"It has been definitely confirmed it was not an act of terror. The moment the roof caved in was recorded by video cameras," Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said.

Over 100 ambulance cars and rescue teams rushed to the site within minutes after the glass roof started caving in at 1915 local time (2145 IST) yesterday (Feb 14, 2004), Itar Tass news agency said.

It said rescue operations were on full swing at the site of the incident with rescuers stopping at regular intervals to listen for voices in the rubble.
