Sangma claims support of majority of NCP members Sunday, February 15 2004 15:22 Hrs (IST) Lucknow:
Claiming to represent the real Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), leader of breakaway group P A Sangma today (Feb 15, 2004) said he had the support of majority of members of party's national executive and he would campaign for the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) in the coming elections.
"Of 81 members in the national executive of NCP, 79 have supported me," Sangma said.
He said that he would continue his struggle for NCP's clock symbol, "I have petitioned Election Commission regarding this."
The former Lok Sabha Speaker said that political compulsions had forced Sharad Pawar, leader of the second faction of NCP, to return to Sonia Gandhi.
Sangma said that he would campaign for NDA in Uttar Pradesh.
"We have asked for at least 2-3 seats in UP, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Bengal and Maharashtra from NDA," he said.
Sangma said that Northeast People's Forum, comprising 17 non-Left and non-Congress parties, would sweep Northeast.
"We will win at least 17 seats," he said.
