35 policemen held for attack on hutment in Nasik

Nasik: Thirty-five policemen of Nasik road based central jail were arrested by police for allegedly attacking people living in Shramik nagar hutment near the jail.

Police has also registered offences against them under various sections of IPC (Indian Penal Code).

Police said jail authorities on Feb 14, 2004 had undertaken its routine search to trace an absconding prisoner. The policemen instead rushed to Shramik nagar hutment, near the jail and beat up inmates while damaging their materials.

The inmates lodged a complaint with the police. They alleged that in the name of search, the jail authorities made attempts to remove encroachment of their hutment.

Taking a serious action city commissioner Prabhakar Lohar last night (Feb 15, 2004) ordered the arrest of 35 policemen.
