I am ready to sacrifice life for people, says Naidu
Monday, February 16 2004 20:06 Hrs (IST)

Tirupati: Brushing aside the threat posed to him by naxalites, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP (Telugu Desam Party) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu today (Feb 16, 2004) said he was prepared to sacrifice his life for the sake of people and the State.

Addressing a well-attended public meeting in his Kuppam Assembly segment, about 185 kms from Tirupati this evening, Naidu, who had survived an assassination attempt by the PWG (Peoples War Group) in this temple town last year, said he was not even scared a bit by the repeated threats from the naxalites.

On his second visit to the constituency in the last week, Naidu continued his tirade against the Opposition parties, asserting none of the parties, including the Congress, had the capacity to take on the TDP at the hustings.

Congress and Communist parties had sided with 'divisive and selfish' Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) and 'violent forces' in a bid to capture power in the coming elections to the State Assembly, he charged.

Accusing the Congress of being anti-woman, he claimed the schemes launched by his Government for the welfare of women would be shelved if the former was voted to power.

Describing as 'impractical" the Congress assurance to provide free power to farmers, Naidu said there would be total black out in the State if the party came back to power. The World Bank, which was aiding the State in a big way would pull out, scared by the Congress promise, he added.

The entire Kuppam region was brought under an unprecedented security cover in view of Naidu's visit.
