PDP worker, two constables shot dead by ultras in JK Monday, February 16 2004 18:03 Hrs (IST) Srinagar:
Militant outfit 'Save Kashmir Movement' today (Feb 16, 2004) shot dead a ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) worker and two constables and injured a civilian on the Srinagar airport road.
Ghulam Mohammad Dar alias Mama Kaloo was shot dead around 10.50 hrs (IST), official sources said, adding he was rushed to SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said.
Two constables on duty at the chowk were also injured in the attack. While constable Asgar Ali was declared brought dead in the hospital, head constable Mohammad Shafi succumbed to injuries at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, they said.
An unidentified civilian injured in the shootout was also removed to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
Official sources said militant outfit 'Save Kashmir Movement', involved in the killing of deputy inspector general of police (crime and railways), Jammu, Mohammad Amin Bhat in Srinagar on February 2, has owned responsibility for today's incident.
The said a person, identifying himself as the outfit's spokesman, told a local news agency on phone that the PDP leader was killed by the group for his "anti-movement" activities and close links to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
