Pak proposes liberalised Visa regime with India Wednesday, February 18 2004 10:54 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri said he favoured liberalisation of Visas between the two countries for certain professionals and suggested boosting the strength of the staff at the diplomatic missions of the two countries.
Asked if Pakistan would ease Visas, he told Doordarshan "I am all for it. We strongly recommend Visas should be liberalised. I am for liberalised Visa for certain professionals."
He, however, said both the countries have to be sensitive that people visiting them are not terrorists and they are not people with evil intentions.
Kasuri said the process of peace between India and Pakistan can be carried farther by enhanced people-to-people contact.
In this context, he cited the exchange of visits by Parliamentarians, media-persons and politicians between the two countries.
Kasuri said, "We have suggested that we increase the number of people in the High Commissions because it is all right saying that you need liberal Visa but if you don't have people to give the Visas, then slowly the enhanced contacts and all links will close down."
"So, it is in the interest of the two countries to increase the strength in the High Commissions," he added.
