'Feel-good' real only when farmers say so: DPM Thursday, February 19 2004 14:21 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
As the Vajpayee Government is busy projecting a "feel-good" factor in various sectors, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Feb 19, 2004) said that the farming community was not saying they have such a feeling and assured to address their problems soon.
"Our Government believes there is a good feeling in the country," he told a group of farmers from various places of Haryana who called on him to offer thanks for Cabinet decision to waive capital gain and tax deduction at source (TDS) for the agriculturists on their land acquired.
"But we feel, the feel-good will really be so when the farming community says so. Today, they are not saying so although various sections of the society are saying it,"
Advani said.
Noting that the agriculturists were facing some problems, he assured that steps would be taken to address these.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the various steps being taken by the Government for the farmers' benefit was known to Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh who regrettably was out of station today.
Advani said that a group of farmers had called on him some days ago for relief after which he had talked to Rajnath Singh leading to the Cabinet decision.
Interestingly, the farmers' group, comprising Hindus and Muslims, were late by more than an hour at their appointment with Advani, keeping the Deputy Prime Minister waiting all the while at his residence.
