'Babri demolition sudden action of frenzied mob' Thursday, February 19 2004 21:08 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Asserting that the demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya was not a part of a conspiracy, the counsel for the then Faizabad District Magistrate and SSP, today (Feb 19, 2004) told the Lieberhan Commission that gradual hope, anger and frustration of the majority community led to its destruction on December 6, 1992.
Maintaining that local administration had taken the "wise decision" of not resorting to fire on kar sevaks, who had suddenly become frenzied, advocate I B Singh, appearing for R N Srivastava and D B Roy, then DM and SSP, said they could not have taken a decision themselves as the security plan was made by the State Government with the approval of the Centre.
Brushing aside the theory of conspiracy in demolition, the counsel said it did not appear like a conspiracy or plan because the kar sevaks became frenzied only after seeing a group of people (kar sevaks) succeeding in obtaining entry into the disputed structure.
"It was not the case that 500 to few thousand people destroyed the structure. It was the entire kar sevaks who committed the offence," Singh told the Commission.
Elaborating that it was a sudden action of the frenzied mob, he said, "It was practically impossible to demolish such a huge structure and remove the debris within four hours."
