At least 15 injured in powerful blast in Amritsar

Amritsar: A powerful bomb blast took place near the offices of the senior superintendent of police (SSP) and other officials in Amritsar this afternoon (Feb 19, 2004).

About 15 people were injured in the blast, which took place around 16.30 hrs (IST) near the offices of the SSP, deputy commissioner and district courts.

The glass windowpanes of nearby offices and buildings were damaged and roofs of temporary sheds in the district courts complex collapsed under the impact of the explosion, a correspondent at the site said.

The area has been cordoned off and senior officials rushed to the site.

The nature of the explosive used in the blast is yet to be identified, officials at the spot said.
