NDA launches new buzzword, 'India Accelerating'
Friday, February 20 2004 10:23 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: After "feel-good factor" and "India Shining", the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government today (Feb 19, 2004) introduced its new buzzword "India Accelerating" in its bid to showcase the achievements of the country in the last ten years of economic reforms.

Unveiling a short film 'Indian economy on an accelerated growth track', Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said, "It is a remarkable success story, not of any individual or organisation but that of India."

"The accelerated growth is purely based on the data and is a benign growth chart and shows low inflation, low fiscal deficit and the interest rates were coming down in the country," Singh said, adding that very few countries in the world have achieved this.

The film was not a partisan approach by the Government and was to showcase that the country was on a dynamic growth path, he said.

The film which tracks the progress of Indian economy since independence said, "India was ranked fourth largest economy as per the 2001 estimates based on purchase power parity and may edge out Japan to go a rank up when the 2003 figures are out."

The country was at the doorstep of the new economic growth and the young population and high and growing savings rate would be the inputs to future growth in the country, it added.
