Brown sugar worth Rs 1.14 cr seized; 5 arrested Friday, February 20 2004 15:14 Hrs (IST) Ahmedabad:
In a major haul, the Gujarat Police's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has recovered about 1.15 kg of brown sugar, worth Rs 1.14 crore in the international market, and arrested five persons in this connection, a top police official said today (Feb 20, 2004).
Two persons hailing from Madhya Pradesh were arrested on February 13 when they had come to deliver the consignment in Ahmedabad, ATS Superintendent of Police D H Parmar said.
The two accused Samimullah and Fanwarullah were taken on six-day police remand and interrogations revealed that the consignment was to be delivered to two persons in the city, who were identified as Nabi Ahmed Noor Mohd Pathan and Amruddin Chotumiyan Sheikh, who were arrested later, he said.
Parmar said that investigation into the incident further revealed that accused had some roots in Rajasthan following which the main accused Sher Khan was arrested from there
yesterday (Feb 19, 2004).
