Robbers loot Sister Nirmala, others in Jharkhand Saturday, February 21 2004 22:00 Hrs (IST) Medininagar (Jharkand):
The superior general of Missionaries of Charity (MC) Sister Nirmala was among a number of people who were looted by road robbers near Amjharia Ghati in Latehar district today (Feb 21, 2004).
District superintendent of police Maninder Singh Bhatia said a group of 20 to 25 road robbers went on a looting spree on Medininagar-Ranchi Road near Amjharia Ghati under Chandua police station.
They stopped dozens of buses, cars and two wheelers in the morning and looted the people.
Sister Nirmala, who was on a two-day visit to Palamu district in connection with MC functions, was in a vehicle along with five others, Bishop of Chandwa, Anthony Xevier Lakra confirmed.
It was not yet known what belongings the robbers looted from Sister Nirmala.
The Central Reserve police Force (CRPF) had launched raids and had opened fire on suspected spots in dense forests. Two of the robbers were injured in the firing but managed to escape, the SP said.
