Yet another Phoolan accused in trouble in Tihar Saturday, February 21 2004 10:00 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Even as Delhi police continue to hunt for escapee Sher Singh Rana, another accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case today (Feb 20, 2004) allegedly consumed some "poisonous substance" in Tihar jail.
Dhan Prakash alias Vicky alias Dheeraj who was in jail no.3 of the Tihar prison, allegedly took the step at around noon, police sources said.
Police received information on phone that an undertrial has consumed "phenyl" in jail and his health condition was deteriorating, they said.
Vicky, who hails from Haridwar in Uttaranchal and is one of the 11 persons arrested in Phoolan Devi murder case, was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, the sources said.
A medical examination revealed that the prisoner had consumed some "unknown poisonous substance", they said.
He is undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is stated to be stable, the sources said.
A case has been registered at Hari Nagar Police station and an investigation has been ordered to ascertain in what circumstances he consumed the "poisonous substance".
