Cong determined to defeat communal forces: Soni
Saturday, February 21 2004 14:12 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Flaying the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government at the Centre for "wrongfully" claiming the credit for normalisation in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress today (Feb 21, 2004) said it was determined to defeat the "communal forces" in the country with the help of secular parties and the left front.

"Congress has worked out several alliances in South, Maharashtra, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. We are determined to defeat communal forces like BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls with the support from secular parties and left front," party general secretary Ambika Soni said.

Soni said that BJP president Venkaiah Naidu's charges that Congress had failed to rope in any alliance partners were "baseless and far from truth".

The Congress leader also lambasted the BJP for claiming that no developmental work was carried out during the 45 years of party rule in the country.

"During the Congress regime, 33 lakh kilometres of roads were built across the country. If this network did not exist, the present Government would not have been able to build highways which was also conceived by the Congress Governments," she said.

Soni said that NDA Government was "wrongfully" claiming the credit for the improvement in situation in Jammu and Kashmir, as it was the Congress party's initiative to restore the confidence among the people of the State.

"It was BJP which only till last year were talking about 'aar paar ki ladaayi' (final war) but Congress in all for a including Parliament, contended that dialogue was the only way to resolve the issues," she added.
