2 Delhi cops held for possessing fake stamp papers
Saturday, February 21 2004 20:33 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today (Feb 21, 2004) arrested two Delhi Police officials, including Inspector Puran Singh, for allegedly distributing and possessing fake stamp papers supplied by Abdul Karim Telgi.

After registering the case last night, in which Telgi has also been named as an accused, CBI today carried out raids at the residence of Singh and Sub Inspector Gaurav Aggarwal and later arrested them, CBI sources said. The documents seized from the residence of Aggarwal were being scrutinised.

Puran Singh, earlier arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the stamp paper scam, had got bail from a city court on February 17.

CBI alleged that Singh and Aggarwal had got friendly with Telgi in 1999 after his name surfaced in a case registered at the Defence Colony. The agency alleged that Singh had taken care of Telgi's business in the national capital.

He visited several multi-national companies, including Ranbaxy, and told their officials that the stamp papers used for agreements by them were fake to facilitate the sale of Telgi's fake stamp papers, the sources said.

The two police officials were also accused of making bogus arrests in connection with a fake stamp paper case registered at Kalkaji police station.

The CBI accused the duo of collecting large amount of money as bribe from certain people threatening them of false implication in the case.

They would be produced before a duty magistrate tomorrow.
