PM assures help to workers of unorganised sector Sunday, February 22 2004 14:50 Hrs (IST) Lucknow:
Stressing the need to bring workers under the organised sector, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today (Feb 22, 2004) said that his Government fully appreciated their concerns and problems and intends to solve them on priority basis.
It was ironical that no Government except the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) had thought about their problems, he said, launching a social welfare scheme for workers of the unorganised sector.
Vajpayee said that workers in the unorganised sector were denied basic facilities like health care and social security, as they did not have money.
"Rich do not need social security, but for the poor an umbrella of social security is must to protect them in case of accidents, ill-health or untimely death," he said.
"For the first time after independence, my Government has chalked out a plan to insure lives of the workers of unorganised sector," said Vajpayee on a two-day visit to his Parliamentary constituency Lucknow, the first after the dissolution of Lok Sabha.
