ISRO orders high-level probe into Sriharikota fire Monday, February 23 2004 19:47 Hrs (IST) Bangalore:
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has ordered a high level inquiry into the fire in the building of the Solid Propellant Space Booster (SPROB) plant at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh coast this afternoon (Feb 23, 2004).
ISRO secretary S K Das said ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair has rushed to Sriharikota to supervise operations at the centre, where fire fighters are battling the blaze caused due to the highly inflammable solid propellant.
Das said about three persons who received burns on them have been rushed to Chennai for treatment, while rescue operations were on to find three more who were in the building.
The incident, he said, happened about 16.00 hrs (IST), when the propellant segment for testing was being prepared for shift from one building to another.
