One killed, 2 hurt in RJD leader's bodyguards fire
Monday, February 23 2004 10:31 Hrs (IST)

Muzaffarpur (Bihar): One person was shot dead and two were injured when bodyguards of an RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) leader opened fire on people who hurled abuses and threw chappals at the leader at Paraiya village of Bihar's Muzaffarpur district today (Feb 22, 2004), police said.

It was alleged that RJD MLC (Member of Legislative Council) Dinesh Prasad Singh made some objectionable remarks during a function after inauguration of a road in the village.

Angry over the remarks, a section of the people started raining chappals at him and his wife Veena Devi, who is the district board chairperson, the police said.

Sensing trouble, bodyguards of the leader opened fire killing a man, identified as Awdesh Singh, on the spot. Two others were also injured in the firing and they were admitted to Shri Krishna Memorial Medical College and Hospital, the police said.

Additional police force has been rushed to the village to maintain peace.
