Stamp scam: SIT to question Bhujbal and his nephew Monday, February 23 2004 10:18 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
The role of some key politicians in Maharashtra in the fake stamp paper scam will come under sharper focus when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) questions former Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on February 25 and 26.
After issuing summons to Chhagan Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer asking them to appear for questioning, the spotlight of SIT in the scam has shifted from the involvement of criminals and police officers to the role of politicians.
Bhujbal's questioning will assume significance since he held a top-most position in the Government and appointed police officers, R S Sharma, S Wagal and Pradeep Sawant all of whom have been arrested in the scam.
This is not the first instance when the SIT has probed the role of politicians in the scam since it has already arrested former Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister and TDP (Telugu Desam Party) MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Krishna Yadav and Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP) legislator, Anil Gote under the Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act for their alleged involvement, sources said.
