Stamp scam: My followers won't protest, says Bhujbal Monday, February 23 2004 18:34 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
Continuing his tirade against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the multi-crore fake stamp-paper racket, former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today (Feb 23, 2004) ruled out any "trouble" from his supporters on the day he will visit SIT office for questioning.
"I have agreed to attend the SIT's Mumbai office for questioning on February 26, but there will not be any trouble from my party activists or supporters," Bhujbal, the former State Home Minister, told reporters at his residence.
Bhujbal's response assumes significance in the backdrop of reports in a section of media that his supporters were likely to create trouble on the day he appears before SIT.
The former Home Minister came down heavily on the SIT for "shifting its focus from the stamp scam to political vengeance".
Bhujbal said the news of his being summoned by the SIT was "leaked" to the media, but when the SIT questioned Opposition leader Narayan Rane, the fact was kept under wraps.
The senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader demanded that BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) State unit chief Gopinath Munde and Rane, whose names have also came in the section of media in connection with the scam, should also be summoned by the SIT for questioning.
