Bank, insurance employees to go on strike tomorrow Monday, February 23 2004 16:09 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Staff and officers of banks and insurance companies are expected to go on a day long strike following a call by major central trade unions tomorrow (Feb 24, 2004) demanding a wage revision.
Of the 10 banking unions, six of them will take part in the strike over demands, which include early revision of wages and one more pension option for the bankers. Of the five unions in the insurance sector, three of them will join, co-ordinator of All India Coordination Committee of Unions in Finance Sector (AICCUFS), Shantha Raju said today.
Over 15 lakh workmen and officers working in the sector, including Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and its associates, Unit Trust of India (UTI) and other institutions like cooperatives and rural banks will strike work tomorrow, he claimed.
"We waited for over seven months for the Government to come out with measures to seek review of Supreme Court order on right to strike," Raju said in New Delhi adding, "The strike will be total as far as financial sector is concerned."
