Inter-city Express derails in Assam; no casualties

Guwahati: Seven coaches of 5603 UP Inter-city Express between Guwahati and Ledo derailed in Golaghat district in Upper Assam this morning (Feb 25, 2004).

North East Frontier Railway sources said there was no casualty or injury in the derailment.

The incident occurred between Naojan and Sarupathar stations around 04:00 hours (IST).

A special train from Moriani has rushed to the spot to pick up the passengers for their onward journey.

Stating the cause of the derailment was yet to be ascertained as investigations were on, the sources said senior Railway officials from here and Tinsukia division have rushed to the site.

Efforts were on to remove the derailed coaches and tracks were expected to be operational by mid-day, the sources said.
