Two key accused in the Godhra train carnage in Gujarat were today (Feb 25, 2004) arrested in Rajasthan along with four others on the charge of highway robbery.
Director general of police (DGP) V K Hansuka said Salim Jarda and Suleman, two key accused in the Godhra train carnage, were among six persons arrested in Rajsamand district in the wee hours.
The gang of highway robbers was active on the inter-state links in Bhilwara, Udaipur and Rajsamand districts for the last several months, the DGP said.
The gang used to intercept trucks loaded with consignment, take them to roadside 'dhabas' and get unloaded the goods into another vehicle during nights, Hansuka said.
During interrogation, Salim and Suleman confessed their involvement in the train carnage, he said.
The four other arrested revealed that they were involved in 11 cases of highway robbery in Rajasthan, he said.
