Wednesday, February 25 2004 16:53 Hrs (IST)

Dindigul (Tamil Nadu): Tamil Nationals Movement (TNM) leader P Nedumaran was today (Feb 25, 2004) acquitted in a case filed against him for making pro-LTTE (Liberation tigers of Tamil Eelam) remarks during a public meeting at Poolathur in the district in 1998, by a court in Dindigul.

Acquitting Nedumaran, the additional district and sessions judge Anandi observed that the Government prosecution failed to establish the charges against Nedumaran.

Nedumaran was present at the court when the judgement was delivered.

The supporters of Nedumaran who had gathered outside the court celebrated the acquittal by bursting crackers and shouting slogans.

Nedumaran was released on bail in a Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) case on December 18 and on January 6, the Madras High Court also granted him bail in a case pertaining to printing and publishing a book in favour of the LTTE in 1993.
