'Pak keen on learning from Indian healthcare' Wednesday, February 25 2004 19:42 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Pakistan today (Feb 25, 2004) expressed keenness in working together with India in the healthcare sector, particularly in areas like cardiology, organ transplants and family planning.
"Both countries have tremendous potential in the healthcare sector and we can cooperate in improving the quality of healthcare available," Farzana Nazir, Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Pakistan said at a conference on 'Healthcare: Destination India'.
She said Pakistan was keen on learning from India's experience in areas like cardiology and organ transplant. She laid greater emphasis in exchange of know-how and expertise in family planning as "both countries faced the problem of increasing population".
Nazir, who is heading a 14-member medical professionals delegation from Pakistan, also suggested exchange of medical students at the Post Graduation level and of ideas in healthcare management.
"We are the closest and we have to prove this," she said adding, "differences between both the nations should be resolved through dialogue. We are here to spread goodwill".
In his address, Minister of State for External Affairs Vinod Khanna said, "Government will encourage initiatives for both our countries to work on reciprocal basis and exchange doctors and coordinate in research and development and all programmes concerning health."
