10 day 'Mahamaham' Mela begins in South India

Kumbakonam: The 10-day long South India's Kumbh mela, "Mahamaham" began this morning (Feb 26, 2004) with temple flags being hoisted after poojas were performed.

Thousands of devotees and several mutt heads, including Kanchi seer Sri Jayendra Saraswati had a holy dip in the Mahamaham tank.

The devotees have been allowed to take holy dip in the Mahamaham tank, renovated recently, from today.

Earlier, before the temple flag hoisting, poojas were performed, including to Lord Ganesha in which Jayendra also participated.
