'NDA hopes to turn India into a super-power by 2020' Friday, February 27 2004 16:22 Hrs (IST) Vijayawada (AP):
Launching Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign in Vijayawada, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Feb 27, 2004) said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government within its brief span of five years has proved there is unity, stability and security in the country.
"The NDA Government has not only created political stability, but also delivered good governance. We have every right to ask people to give us a chance again to rule the country as we have delivered good results," he said.
The coalition wanted to remove the "underdeveloped" tag attached to India and to turn the country into a super-power by 2020, Advani said, seeking a renewed mandate to complete unfinished work.
"The epitaph attached to India as underdeveloped would be removed by the NDA as we want to work for the people. We want to take the country to progressive direction like USA, China and Japan," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Claiming that BJP is a party with a difference, Advani, who is visiting the city seven years after his rath yatra in 1997 said, "Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was able to bring all the 20 political parties together as he believed in creating trust in them.
"We are not for power, we are just like one family and we ask for vote in the name of positive actions taken up during the last five years," he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Congress had 56 years - a reasonably good period - still there are crores of illiterates and lakhs of unemployed in the country. "But within five years, the NDA Government has practically shown what it can do," he said.
