Mahajan rules out alliance with BSP for LS polls Friday, February 27 2004 15:01 Hrs (IST) Patna:
Claiming that a pro-NDA (National Democratic Alliance) wave was sweeping across the country, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) general secretary Pramod Mahajan today (Feb 27, 2004) ruled out an alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) before the coming Lok Sabha elections.
"There will be no tie-up with the BSP at the State or national levels before and after the Lok Sabha elections. Not only the BJP, but none of the NDA constituents will have any pact with BSP," Mahajan said.
"We never approached Mayawati for an alliance. It was Sonia Gandhi who went all the way to Mayawati's residence to greet her on her birthday and seek BSP's support," Mahajan said referring to BSP president Mayawati's fulminations against the BJP and the Congress at a public meeting yesterday (Feb 26, 2004).
Asserting that a pro-NDA wave was sweeping across the entire country, the BJP leader said, "No party will be able to stall our march to power. Even parties with caste or community bias will bite the dust." Mahajan said despite Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti party joining the Congress-RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) alliance in Bihar, the NDA's poll prospects in the State had not dimmed.
An upbeat Mahajan said that the Opposition was in total disarray was manifest in its failure to decide on a common leader to spearhead the election campaign.
