Cricket: India may propose special flights, trains Monday, March 1 2004 19:15 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
In a bid to accommodate the rush of cricket fans from India wanting to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming cricket series, Government is weighing various options including proposing to Islamabad operation of special flights and additional train and bus services.
A meeting to chalk out detailed proposals would be held in the External Affairs Ministry on March 3, official sources said today (March 1, 2004).
On its part, Pakistan has recommended to India running of special buses between Amritsar and Lahore to ferry Indian cricket lovers and also proposed setting up of special visa camp of its High Commission in Amritsar.
Pakistan's proposals were conveyed by its High Commission to the MEA last week. Islamabad has conveyed its readiness to issue over 8,000 visas to those interested in watching the matches.
The sources said all these issues would be examined on March 3 and a package worked out to facilitate travel of the cricket enthusiasts.
"These may include running of special flights and additional train and bus services even from Delhi and other places," the sources said.
