Incumbency is NDA Govt's biggest asset: Advani
Tuesday, March 2 2004 13:57 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani will launch BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) election campaign in two phases from March 10 from Kanyakumari focussing on the achievements of the Vajpayee Government during the last five years.

The first phase of his campaign by road will take him from Kanyakumari to Amritsar where he will reach on March 26, Advani told a press conference at the party headquarters.

He will embark on the second phase of his campaign on March 30 from Porbandar in Gujarat to Puri in Orissa where he will reach on April 20.

Advani said that a four-day gap has been kept between March 26 and 30 to allow him to file nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls.

"If the party nominates me, I will re-contest the elections from Gujarat," he said, adding in between the polling dates he would undertake campaign by flying to various places.

Attacking Congress for failing to take the country forward, Advani said that he would highlight the achievements made by the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government during a short period of five years compared to 50-year rule of Congress.

"The focus of the elections this time is development," the Deputy Prime Minister said, observing that he felt this qualitative change would be beneficial for the country's democracy.

Expressing confidence that the people would re-elect the NDA Government to allow it to complete unfinished task of making the country a developed one, Advani said he would convey to the people how "swaraj" (independence) has been converted into "suraj" (good governance) in the last five years.
