'Hindus won't feel good without temple in Ayodhya' Tuesday, March 2 2004 18:46 Hrs (IST) Kolkata:
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today (Mar 2, 2004) said the Hindus would not feel good until Ram temple was built at Ayodhya and urged political parties to work sincerely for the construction of the temple.
Making it clear that VHP would prefer to dwell on the 'hindutva' agenda rather than the 'India shining' campaign, VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia, in an obvious reference to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) promise of building the temple and L K Advani's 'rath yatra' in its support, told a press conference herein Kolkata, "We expect everybody should keep promise of road show or rath show."
When asked that the BJP had shelved the Ram temple agenda and dwelt on the 'India shining' campaign, Togadia said, "Let us see the BJP manifesto. At present, it seems that they have dumped the Ayodhya issue."
On Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee beginning his campaign from Ayodhya, the VHP leader said, "Rajiv Gandhi had also undertaken such campaign, but Congress' tally of seats had drastically gone down after the party adopted the stand of appeasing the Muslims."
To a question whether VHP would campaign for BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, Togadia said his organisation would support political parties working for the interests of the Hindus.
"We will even extend support to CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) if that party supports the causes of the Hindus," he said.
VHP, he said, would not be satisfied till construction work for the temple at Ayodhya was undertaken.
