Bangarappa to contest Lok Sabha elections
Friday, March 5 2004 17:22 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Ruling out his return to State politics following his entry into Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Karnataka Chief Minister S Bangarappa today (March 5, 2004) said he would contest the Lok Sabha polls and claimed more State Congress leaders were "in the queue" to desert the party and join BJP.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP election office on his return from Delhi, he said, "Let me make it very clear that I am contesting the Lok Sabha polls subject to the high command's approval."

Bangarappa's categorical statement assumes significance as before leaving the Congress, he had expressed a desire to come back to State politics and even play a second innings as Chief Minister.
