Friday, March 5 2004 17:01 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: US Secretary of State Colin Powell is likely to visit India soon, dates for which would be worked out.

"US Ambassador to India David Mulford met External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha yesterday and proposed the visit of Powell," External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters when asked to comment on reports about Powell's visit.

The Minister told the Ambassador that "Powell is most welcome to visit Delhi", the spokesman said, adding the dates would be worked out.

This would be the first high-profile visit by a US dignitary after the recent peace initiative undertaken by India and Pakistan.
