Cong finalises 19 nominees in MP for LS polls Saturday, March 6 2004 10:13 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Congress tonight (Mar 5, 2004) finalised candidates for at least 19 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh but kept pending a decision on Gwalior and Rajgarh constituencies where late leader Madhavrao Scindia's wife Madhaviraje and former Chief Minister Digivijay Singh are being favoured for contesting.
"The CEC (Chief Election Commission) has finalised at least 19 candidates for Madhya Pradesh but has kept pending Gwalior and Rajgarh seats," senior party leader Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said.
He said the party had left 10 seats to accommodate like-minded political parties like Lok Jan Shakti, Rashtriya Samata Dal, Gondwana Samata Samaj Party and Janata Party as also BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) if there is a tie-up at national level.
The four party front "Jan Kranti Manch" led by Ramvilas Paswan has demanded six seats in the State including Gwalior, Ujjain, Reva, Satna, Balaghat and Bhind.
While the name of Madhviraje Scindia, mother of Jyotiraditya Scindia, was being mentioned in party circles, it was not immediately clear whether Digvijay Singh would contest from Rajgarh once represented by his brother Lakshman who joined BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).
The State screening committee had submitted a list of candidates for 21 Lok Sabha constituencies but had left a decision on Satna and Reva to Arjun Singh, Gwalior and Guna to Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajgarh for Digvijay Singh.
Though the CEC has authorised party high command to take decision about seven sitting MPs (Member of Parliament), Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Satyavrata Chaturvedi are likely to get re nomination from Chhindwara, Guna and Khajurao.
