PM, DPM confident of repeat mandate for NDA Sunday, March 7 2004 18:02 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Celebrating colours in the election mode, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (March 7, 2004) exuded confidence that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would be voted back to power, rejecting suggestions that this was the last Holi for their Government.
While Vajayee sought "people's support" to fulfill their aspirations, Advani said this Holi was not the "last" for the NDA Government.
"Elections provide an opportunity to people to express their feelings. People should put forth their views peacefully. If they want to bring in a change in the Government, let them do. But the change should be such as will fulfill the aspirations of the people," Vajpayee told reporters while celebrating Holi at his residence.
He said during the last five years, his Government has been "making efforts in this direction (to fulfill people's aspirations). In future also, we want people's support".
With upcoming Lok Sabha polls evidently up on the minds of political stalwarts as they celebrated Holi with relatives, friends and close associates, Vajpayee said, "This time there is colour of elections also. Elections should be fought peacefully and on issues."
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani asserted this was not the last celebration of the festival of colours for the NDA Government as he was confident of a repeat mandate for it.
Vajpayee and Advani visited each other's residences to exchange greetings.
