Two special trains to carry cricket fans to Pak Sunday, March 7 2004 18:43 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Indian Railways will run two special trains to carry cricket-lovers to Pakistan on March 20 and 23 from New Delhi, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said today (March 7, 2004).
"Earlier the plan was to run trains till Attari on a short stretch. But after considering that the cricket fans should not face problems, we decided to run special trains from Delhi... while one will run on March 20, the other will go on March 23," he said.
On return journey, the dates of departure were coinciding with the Samjhauta Express. So, additional coaches would be added to that train as has been requested by the Pakistan Railways, Kumar told Aaj Tak.
He said indications were that about 2,500 cricket lovers would be travelling by train to watch the Indo-Pak series.
The Minister said the Railways had considered the problem of the cricket lovers who wanted direct connection, though there was no problem in travelling between Delhi and Amritsar.
