Women have an active role in development: Kalam Sunday, March 7 2004 12:41 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Mar 7, 2004) greeted women on the occasion of International Women's Day and asked them to work for setting an "equitable society".
"On this International Women's Day, I greet all (women) members success in shaping an equitable society," he said in a message on the eve of the International Women's Day.
"With proven capability on many professions and tasks, you (women) can definitely play a proactive role in the mission of transforming India into a developed nation," he said.
He emphasised on the importance of literacy movement by women to create an enlightened society and promote transparent governance at the grass root democratic level.
"I am sure with your inherent characteristic of compassion, patience, perseverance, commitment, honest and hard work, you will be able to provide innovative solutions to societal issues and be a partner in making the nation prosperous, happy and a safe place to live," he said.
