Sonia to kick-off election campaign in Andhra

Hyderabad: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will kick off her party's election campaign in Andhra Pradesh during the three-day visit to the State, commencing tomorrow (Mar 10, 2004), that will see her addressing three public meetings at Nandyal, Karimnagar and Vijayawada and road shows in the city.

In a packed schedule, Gandhi will arrive at Anantapur tomorrow from Bangalore and undertake a 20 km road journey stopping at some villages en route where she will meet families of farmers who had committed suicide.

She will then proceed to Nandyal in Kurnool district by helicopter to address her first public meeting, according to a tentative schedule released by the State Congress Committee.

Gandhi would reach the city for an overnight stay. On March 11, she will embark on a road show covering several areas in the city and unveil a statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Ramachandrapuram before taking a chopper to proceed to Karimnagar in naxalite-affected Telangana region where she will address a public meeting.

The Congress president will return to the State capital for a night halt. On March 12, she will continue with her road show covering some more areas on the city outskirts before flying off to Vijayawada to address her third public meeting.

Gandhi is expected to return to the city on the same day and catch a flight to Delhi.
