Vajpayee is not trustworthy, says Congress Wednesday, March 10 2004 22:20 Hrs (IST) Raipur:
Alleging that the "India Shining" campaign was to divert the attention of the people from the "real issues" at the time of Lok Sabha polls, Congress today (March 10, 2004) claimed that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was not "trustworthy".
"The Prime Minister is not trustworthy since he and his Government have deviated from all the promises, especially with the youths and the poor," All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters.
Since the Government has "betrayed" the people in all fronts, starting from good governance to providing security to the nation, both external and internal despite promise, the NDA Government should not be given another mandate, he claimed.
Alleging that the Government had a dismal performance and betrayed the youths and the poor in the name of employment, Sharma said there was starvation deaths also when godowns were overflowing with foodgrains and the NDA failed to work properly when a large portion of the country was reeling under severe drought.
Hence the people made the Prime Minister responsible for breach of promise, hollowness in claims and unreliability in leadership and to divert the attention of the people from the real issues the "Shining India" campaign was launched, he claimed.
