'Attacking Gandhi family won't be good for Advani' Friday, March 12 2004 21:04 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Accusing Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani of making personal attack on the Gandhi family, Congress today (Mar 12, 2004) asked him to desist from doing so, as it would "not be good for him".
"He is totally panicked by poor turnout for his yatra and overwhelming response to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's 'Jan Sampark Abhiyan' in Andhra Pradesh. He has stooped low and is making personal attack on the Gandhi family," party spokesman Kapil Sibal told reporters.
Asking Advani to shun making personal attack, he said if this continued, the party would be forced to come out with certain facts, "which would not be good" and suggested Advani should make statements after a deep thought.
Taking a dig at the reported "breakdown" of Advani's 'rath' at Coimbatore, Sibal said his 'rath' would have more breakdowns during the 8,000 km journey.
If Advani was keen on undertaking a "rath yatra", he should have done it as "repentance yatra" apologising for what had happened in Gujarat, Sibal said, wanting to know why Narendra Modi was still the Chief Minister there.
"This is nothing but vote politics," he said.
"The rath yatra has just reached Coimbatore and now there is a breakdown... Now Advani needs a hydraulic push up to face the public. I have not seen such an yatra," he said, adding that in fact they were in a state of panic.
