Venkaiah dares Cong for public debate on achievements Friday, March 12 2004 18:18 Hrs (IST) Jaipur:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Mar 12, 2004) dared the Congress for a public debate over achievements of five and half years of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre and 50 years' work of successive Congress Governments.
"I challenge the Congress to have a constructive debate across the country over their 50 years of work and achievements of the NDA Government's five and half years in office, BJP chief M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters in Jaipur.
Describing the "chargesheet" released by the Congress against the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government as having no force, Naidu said, "It is unfortunate that the Opposition party could not find even good writers for drafting the document."
By talking about corruption without any evidence the chargesheet would only remind the people of the follies of Congress' monopoly rule for 50 years, he said.
"Congress is responsible for every problem of this country because it undermined all democratic institutions, damaged federal structure, misused Article 365 of Constitution in removing State Governments opposed to it, superseded judiciary, gagged the press and created a divided between majority community and Muslims," he charged.
"The party, which ruined the country committing all these mistakes, is now daring to chargesheet us but the people will give it a befitting reply in the coming Lok Sabha polls," he said.
