11 killed in militancy-linked violence in Jammu Saturday, March 13 2004 12:58 Hrs (IST) Srinagar:
Four Army troops, three militants and a woman were among 11 people killed in separate incidents since last evening (Mar 11, 2004) in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces smashed two militant hideouts seizing Arms and ammunition, a police spokesman said.
Four Army jawans and a militant were killed and three troops, including a major wounded when militants ambushed an Army patrol in Surankote area in Jammu region's Poonch district.
Militants shot dead a woman in Deeri village in Pulwama district, the spokesman said adding that an ultra was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kreeri area in Baramulla.
A self-styled area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in a gang war in Doda district.
The trouble erupted when militants belonging to Lashker-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen had a verbal duel over a trivial matter.
The two militant groups traded fire for nearly half-an-hour in which the self-styled commander was killed, militant Ali Mohammad Lone was shot dead by fellow ultras near a school building at Kulgam in Anantnag district.
Ultras abducted and killed one Nazir Ahmad Wani in Pulwama district.
Police picked up body of an unidentified person, believed to have been killed by ultras, in Baramulla district.
Militants hurled a grenade on a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) picket near cement bridge in Baramulla district but on one was injured.
Security forces busted two militant hideouts in Doda and Poonch districts and recovered Arms and ammunition.
