Foreigners will not rule the nation: Varun Gandhi Saturday, March 13 2004 20:21 Hrs (IST) Vadodara:
Without naming Congress president and his aunt Sonia Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Young Turk Varun Gandhi today (March 13, 2004) said that "foreigners" will not be in a position to rule the nation and hoped that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government led by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will sweep the coming Lok Sabha polls.
"Though the country's foreign exchange reserves have touched more than Rs 109 billion, foreigners will not be in a position to rule the country," Varun said, addressing a rally in tribal-dominated Bodeli town, about 60 km from here, hitting the campaign trail in the State on his 25th birthday.
On his maiden visit to Gujarat, Varun, who recently joined BJP along with his mother and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, exuded confidence that problem of unemployment would be solved once Vajpayee Government is voted to power.
He said he was attracted by Vajpayee's capacity to lead the country and the good governance rendered under his leadership by the NDA Government.
Striking a local chord, the BJP's new entrant said that enemies of the country will not be allowed to tarnish the image of Gujarat.
Accompanied by State Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel, he also moved in a bullock cart for about 10 minutes receiving loud cheers from people who had lined on both sides to greet him.
