'It is upto India to give impetus to Indo-Pak peace' Monday, March 15 2004 10:41 Hrs (IST) Islamabad:
Contending that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has put forth Islamabad's view emphasising on centrality of Kashmir issue, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid today (Mar 14, 2004) said it was upto India to act "judiciously" and provide momentum to Indo-Pak peace process.
"The President has forwarded the case of Pakistan brilliantly and now it is upto the Indians to act judiciously and give impetuous to the peace process," Rashid told a local TV, referring to Musharraf's address to the 'India Today' conclave, via satellite, in New Delhi.
However, the External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi today rejected Musharraf's contention that the January joint statement referred to the centrality of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, and cautioned that any unilateral interpretation of the document was not conducive to building trust or taking the peace process forward.
Rashid said Musharraf answered some "ticklish" questions with "great astuteness" yesterday.
Terming the holding of composite dialogue between India and Pakistan as need of the hour, he said peaceful atmosphere in the South Asia region could not be guaranteed without it.
Describing South Asia as a "sensitive region", Sheikh Rashid said, for maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the region, the resolution of all issues was necessary.
"The whole world wants peaceful resolutions of all issues between Pak-India", he said.
No matter which party in India wins the elections, the peace process would continue, he added.
